The most important marketing rule right now?
Be kind, above all else. Put customers’ well-being first, and be critical of everything that you post. As one person put it, “stay positive, but not ignorant.” The brands that care about their customers more than they care about profit will recover much faster once the pandemic has eased up.
SEO Mad Scientist
What’s up fellow scientists!
If you missed any of our previous test results you can catch up here, but this week we are going to be talking about something different…
How much does your website impact Google My Business Rankings?
Let’s start off with what we did…
This is actually from one of the old test sites we talked about previously. The site was created with 100% duplicate content (the home page is actually an article generated with a tool).
We have run some other tests on this website but one thing we never talked about is the fact that we created a GMB listing for it here. What’s most important about this GMB listing is that it was not created new. This listing was actually repositioned from an old Loan company/category. We changed the name, the phone number, the category, and left everything else on the listing unoptimized…
In fact, up until the end of January, Google was still showing the GMB listing for “title loan” terms. So we can be sure there was no previous relevance to marketing…
We then posted to the website and blog with duplicate content which was syndicated to our social media and to the Google My Business Listing, interlinking all of it to increase indexing and crawling.
We also built 100 local citations however, nowhere in the descriptions do we even mention “social media” which is the service keyword we are going to be looking at. Here’s the info used:
Owner: Jim Profits
NAP:
My Marketer
504 W Diversey Pkwy #200, Chicago, IL 60614
(312) 663-8259
Hours: 24 Hours
Description:
My Marketer is your all in one internet marketing resource for local meetups, resources, services and more. Centralized in Chicago, Il, we review and sponsor some of the biggest marketing conferences and training in the entire world. Visit My Marketer today to learn more about how we can help take your business to new heights online.
All of this was done throughout February 2020… Here is what we see now in Local Viking…
What we are looking at here is the GMB pulling the “social media” relevance 100% from our website. Specifically our service page and our blog category…
Let’s take a moment to talk more about the content itself as well. Like stated it is duplicate content which you can check for yourself if you’d like! Despite that, there is the fact that we haven’t built any links to this site aside from the GMB and citations. This duplicate content has indexed and ranked quite well!
This content has continued to increase in impressions and produce clicks…
So for our next test, we are going to take it a step further and see how much unique content will impact the progress. As you can see our clicks and impressions have plateau slightly at this point as we have stopped further tests and posting content.
The next thing we are going to do is make the primary service page 100% unique content.
The page may already be updated by the time you read this. Of course next week we will report on our findings as well as some more test results going back to our jump link and inner linking tests. See you next week…

New Google reviews not showing up!?
Does anyone know if reviews that clients/customers are leaving now (in COVID times) will start to show up later?
Because right now if a client/customer leaves a review doesn’t show up in GMB!
