SEO Mad Scientist 🧪🥼🔬 Welcome back to another exciting week of Unicode updates as we dig into our final test results on our duplicate, hidden, Unicode content rankings… With our previous test, we were experiencing issues getting our hidden Unicode to index as we normally would see it happen. We were running tests taking content from other sites and switching out the Unicode being used to see if we would show for the target terms. Great results started showing until we started trying to hide the Unicode. There was speculation that some of the variables we were playing around with could have been the cause of a declining including the competition of the keywords we were targeting. When looking at the results from our rank tracker and the terms we were using it does appear that the competition of the term as well as the amount of content we were using was probably causing whatever issues we were seeing. We are now showing along with the website that we took the content from for the same search terms in the top 100. The higher count terms we are not showing for due to the lack of authority but it’s clear from searching for various pieces of this content in “and”, bowl both pieces of content are being shown side-by-side without any filtering. We also believe that using the Unicode in the URL itself may have helped with the indexation. It’s hard to believe that there would be any type of duplicate content penalty with the URL but having Unicode instead of the standard Unicode in the URL seemed like it could possibly be a fact. When looking at the page the hidden content that is duplicated is at the very top as opposed to previously where it was underneath as well. We do not believe this impacted things too much as there is not much more content on the page. Before reposting there was 3 times the amount of content than there is now which we think was also another bigger contributing factor to the weird indexation. Be sure to join us next week as we start digging back into our local GMB tests to see what new and exciting discoveries we can find. Until then, Happy Testing!
