Specifically, we theorize that different types of citations (structured, unstructured, tiered, etc.) contribute differently to the enhancement of local search engine rankings. Moreover, we posit that the optimization of these citations—through methods such as targeted content and strategic link building within the citations—further influences their effectiveness in improving rankings.

Today, SEOs seem pretty split on the subject. However, most will agree that, regardless, citations just aren’t what they used to be. So with that thought in mind, the SEO Mad Scientist set out to discover; are citations still working, and if so much? How well?
In this series of tests, we want to explore the different types of citations that we can build, how we can optimize them, and if these citations and optimization still hold any value when it comes to ranking locally.
