Our hypothesis is that the optimization and strategic use of a Google My Business (GMB) site, notably incorporating a primary keyword in the GMB site URL and targeting this keyword within the site’s content, can significantly affect SERP rankings. We theorize that launching an optimized GMB site as the primary listing site might initially show minimal ranking movement but could lead to ranking improvements over time. Transitioning to a privately hosted website, mirroring the GMB site’s content and structure, then augmenting it with keyword-focused inner pages and internal linking, is expected to further influence SERP rankings. The process of submitting these sites and their inner pages for indexing is anticipated to correlate with an improvement in keyword rankings, attributed to enhanced content relevance and site architecture. This hypothesis aims to evaluate the comparative impact of using a private website versus a GMB site on a listing’s rankings, especially in light of Google’s decision to deprecate GBP websites, thereby offering insights into sustainable local SEO strategies in a changing digital landscape.
We wanted to test the relevance of the primary GMB site signals. If we were to included our primary keyword in the the GMB site URL with and set the GMB website info to target our primary keyword, would we see any type of improvement?
