Our hypothesis is that the physical verification location of a Google My Business (GMB) listing significantly outweighs the specified service area in influencing proximity signals and, consequently, the visibility of the listing in local search results.
We used verified GMB listings without an address and SAB set up in different cities and states to run this test. We set up an EMB (Exact Match Brand) listing as a SAB with a service area in Miami, FL. When we requested verification, we were able to enter a team member’s address in Hanover, PA. However, this did not update the listing address. It left it blank but sent the postcard to me.
