Our hypothesis is that marking a Google Business Profile (GBP) as temporarily closed would result in Google swiftly eliminating all search engine results page (SERP) references to the business, leading to a complete loss of rankings. Conversely, we theorized that upon marking the listing as reopened, the original listings and their positions within the SERPs would be fully restored to their status prior to closure, but could potentially take a weeks or months for this to happen.
We marked a GBP listing as temporarily closed to see what happens when you mark it open again. This was a fun test because it’s something we rarely get to do with clients, as we can’t go closing their GBP listings to see how they react…
At the same time, we have received many questions from clients about marking a business as closed or temporarily closed and how it can impact them. So the insight will be valuable…
